Hate Crimes: Recognition and Reporting
Hate Crimes: Recognition and Reporting, an in-person training, enhances law enforcement’s response and the uniform patrol officer’s ability to recognize and report a hate crime.
Course Description
This eight-hour direct or 16-hour train-the-trainer course addresses law enforcement’s immediate response on the scene of a potential hate or bias crime. This includes addressing victim needs, reporting incidents, and building community trust. Content about victims and their needs is fused throughout the training. This includes victimology research, understanding different cultures, communication best practices, interviewing, and social service resources.
Target Audience
This curriculum was developed primarily for uniformed law enforcement officers (e.g., police, sheriff deputies, troopers, agents, etc.) and first line supervisors.

This course was developed through the COPS Office Collaborative Reform Initiative Technical Assistance Center (CRI-TAC), in conjunction with Arlington, Texas Police Department.
